Over the years, I've dedicated a good deal of my life to helping other people race bikes. Whether from my early years of racing with the likes of Team Aggress, my own messenger racing Team Bega, and more recently the Hub Racing Women's Pro Team, I've received most of my glory from other people's victories. Don't get me wrong, I've played my part and I've recieved proper admiration for my job as a manager, a soigner, a domestique. But it's not the same as winning a race on the bike. And I've won a couple. But I want my own Championship. At the Cycle Messenger World Championships, I've qualified on the front line, placed top 20 twice, been in 6 finals. So now I really want to try to win my own championship in Guatemala at the 2010 CMWC... (im already thinking about 2011 also: the usa national championship timetrial in the mixed tandem masters classes)no-rain-for-meMarch 29 2010so i passed on jefferson cup because of the weather again. this isnt race season for me yet, its still training. my target is in september. so i dont have to be getting wet right now. but it is a missed opportunity to sit on some really fast wheels, and with officiating dates filling at least some of the next couple of weeks, it might be a while until i get another chance. but wet and cold can take a lot out of the body and set the training back days if not weeks if you really hurt yourself. this is a plus/minus vs current messengers for me. riding in the rain day in and day out ultimately hardens you up, trains your body to recover faster, and makes you immune to the bitter weather. but it can also drain your body of needed resources, especially as we get closer to the cmwc in septmeber. while i cant count on 70° and sunny necessarily in guatemala, well, im counting on it. |
